Associations among bullous pemphigoid and various neurological diseases: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

Bullous pemphigoid is a common autoimmune bullous skin disease of the elderly. The objective this meta-analysis was to assess association with neurological disease. We conducted systematic search three databases, screening for articles relevant terms from database inception until August 01, 2020. Newcastle-Ottawa quality assessment scale used evaluate retained articles. Random effects models were applied calculate pooled odds ratio and confidence intervals. Publication bias evaluated by funnel plot Egger's test. A total 25 studies 44,726 BP patients included in meta-analysis. Patients significantly more likely have any [odds (OR): 4.5, 95% interval (CI): 3.2–6.5]. This true for: stroke (OR: 2.7, CI: 2.2–3.4), Parkinson's 2.2–3.2), dementia 4.1, 3.0–5.7), Alzheimer's 2.3, 1.2–4.4), epilepsy 2.4, 1.6–3.5), multiple sclerosis 3.3, 2.1–5.2), compared controls. an increased prevalence Clinicians should be aware prevalence, its possible implications, preventive measures patients.
